During the spring of 2017, the Finnish Ministry of Education and Culture invited Finns to present a vision concerning a new type of elementary school – the theme being “What would the best elementary school in the world be like?”. Thousands of elementary school pupils, their caretakers, teaching professionals and other key stakeholders participated in the visions.
Idea Factory was used as the method of public consultation.
From an extensive amount of material, key themes were selected for further work by the ministry’s working groups. Text analysis produced a wealth of new perspectives on the everyday life of an elementary school, charted the importance of key challenges, and gave views on how elementary schools should be able to respond to future challenges, as well as utilize them.
